Anoushka Shankar

If all goes well musician Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, will be seen acting in a Bollywood film and that too opposite serial kisser Emraan Hashmi. The bi-lingual film titled Breaking Free is being directed by documentary filmmaker Ahsan Hyder.
Anoushka has already heard the script and agreed in principle, however, the necessary formalities remain to be done. Ahsan confirms the news and says, “Yes it is true that I have spoken to Anoushka about the film. She even mailed me back saying that she was interested in doing the film. Now I need to go to New York and get her to sign and seal the deal.”

Why did he think that Anoushka was right for the film? “I wanted someone like Anoushka for the role as the film needs to travel to New Zealand, New York and New Delhi. Anoushka was perfect for the role because she has a musical background and has an accent which goes well with the character. I recently met her and her father, Pandit Ravi Shankar at their New Delhi residence where we had a long chat. She wanted me to shoot the film in July, but I need to have Emraan’s dates as he is shooting for Raaz 2 around the same time,” says Ahsan.

Does he really think that Emraan would be perfect for the film? He says, “With Jannat, Emraan has emerged as one of the top stars today. He is the right choice for the role because he is very talented and his talent needs to be tapped further. Emraan has already been finalised for the role and one more lead actor is to be finalised.” Speaking about the film, Ahsan says, “It is a bilingual film in English and Hindi. The English title of the film is Breaking Free but I still need to finalise the Hindi title. It’s too early to reveal anything about the subject of the film right now.”
