April 21, 2008 (Sawf News) - Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan became teary eyed while talking with Aishwarya and Abhishek, who are holidaying in Miami, over a satellite video hookup, during a press event to launch Sarkar Raj promos, at JW Marriott in Mumbai, Sunday, April 20.

Amitabh, 65, and Jaya, 60, surprisingly turned emotional on seeing the couple, as the day also marked their first wedding anniversary.
Director Ram Gopal Varma says it was a coincidence that he organized the promotional event for the film, starring Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya , on the same day as the couple’s wedding anniversary.

Also at the event were - joined at the hips Bachchan friend Amar Singh and Aishwarya’s parents, Krishnaraj and Varinda Rai.
Varinda embarrassed her daughter when she addressed the former Miss World (1994) by her home name.

“Hi Gullu how are you?” Varinda asked cheerily as she saw her daughter on the video screen, leaving Aishwarya aghast that her home name had been revealed to the world.
Another notable at the event, sort of, was Varma apologizing to Amitabh Bachchan for having dragged him through two box office disasters - Nishabd and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.

“I am sorry Amitji,” he said, rather late one would think, exuding confidence that this time he had a winner on hand.
To which Bachchan preached “There are endless examples the world over that there isn’t a single producer or director who hasn’t faced criticism or failure. Failure is part of our lives. I would rather learn from it rather than succumb to it.”

We wonder just what it was that Bachchan learnt from the two Varma disasters.
Anyway, Varma, who was in total appeasement mode, rambled on about Aishwarya’s brilliant performance in Sarkar Raj.
“Frankly, if you ask me, I am most surprised with Aishwarya because one it’s unexpected. Being a woman and in a role like that, especially in a rough and rugged backdrop that Sarkar Raj is set in, to fit it in correctly and understand the subtleties, my vote goes to Aishwarya,” he said.
Go figure, that one!
Sarkar Raj will be premiered at IIFA 2008 in Bangkok
Prime Minister designate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, who spent six years in prison starting 2001, says he watched Aishwarya films while there and is a fan of hers and Lata Mangeshkar.

March 24, 2008 (Sawf News) - Prime Minister designate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, who spent six years in prison starting 2001, says he watched Aishwarya films while there and is a fan of hers and Lata Mangeshkar.
“While in prison, I used to watch all of Aishwarya’s movies on my laptop besides listening to Lataji’s songs. And let me admit that I am a great fan of Aishwarya Rai now.”
The 56-year-old former speaker of the National Assembly, who was imprisoned by the Musharraf regime for irregularities in the appointments to his secretariat, is known to be a die hard romantic who chose prison over appeasement.
Gillani who was eventually exonerated of all charges by the Pakistan Supreme Court will be administered the oath of office on Tuesday, March 25.
We wonder which Aishwarya film Gillani liked most? Hopefully, it wasn’t Kuch Naa Kaho (2003).
