Shahid Kapoor is one of the very few stars today who enjoys a huge unadulterated popularity. So, even his cameo (he plays a teacher and so does Ayesha Takia) in Paathshala has generated a lot of buzz. And then there’s irrepressible Nana Patekar who can be a treat any day. Produced by choreographer Ahmed Khan’s wife Shaira and directed by Milind Ukeye, Paathshala is having Indian Education system as its backdrop and is said to be a nice blend of drama, comedy and social relevance. Kapoor to do best buddy Ahmed Khan’s film phukat mein!

Shahid Kapoor has waived aside his fees for close friend and producer Ahmed Khan’s Paathshala. Shahid will play a role similar to Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par. Paathshaala is being directed by Milind Ukey.

Close connection

Shahid plays an English and music teacher who comes into the lives of a group of young, troubled students. Says a source close to Shahid, “Shahid is fond of Ahmed so when Ahmed approached him, Shahid decided to do it for free as it is his first film. Ahmed and Shahid have grown up together and Khan had choreographed Shahid’s first musical video.
Shahid and Ahmed have struggled together during their career. The source adds, “Shahid was most touched when last year he wanted to buy a racer bike for his brother Ishaan and Ahmed searched around for it and ordered it, while Shahid was busy with his shooting commitments.”

It”s different!

Shahid’s friend adds, “Shahid’s role in Paathshaala is not a full fledged hero”s role but a special appearance. Govinda and Ayesha Takia play the main leads. Though Shahid has seen Taare five times and loves the film, in Paathshaala he has a different role from that of Aamir’s in Taare.”

Currently Shahid is at home preparing for Ken Ghosh”s musical romance where he plays a dancer. Shahid says, “Yes it’s true but I can”t talk about it, as Ahmed is a dear friend of mine and such things are personal. Currently, Ahmed is developing my character and the screenplay. We will talk about it when everything is finalised.”

Nagesh Kukunoor has roped in John Abraham for his next. If that interests you, wait till you hear the plot!

SIC Pictures and Percept Picture Company have roped in Nagesh Kukunoor to direct a movie for them, and this time Nagesh, who is popular for making off-beat cinem, has generated a lot of buzz with his next movie Aashayein. From the looks of it, Nagesh Kukunoor’s roping in of John Abraham to play the main lead in the movie has created a lot of interest in his project.

Aashayien also stars Ayesha Takia in the female lead, and is the story about John Abraham, who plays the role of a gambler. John hits the jackpot, much to his sheer happiness, only to learn that he has less than a hundred days to live! And to spend his last days in as great a maner as possible, John moves to a new place where he learns and discovers new aspects and meanings of life.

John Abraham and Ayesha Takia had starred together in last year’s debacle No Smoking, which was severely panned after much hype and expectations, but managed to find it’s own niche audience. As far as the stakes are concerned, both John Abraham and Ayesha Takia need a hit desperately, in an otherwise dwindling career graph. No Smoking is still counted as one of John’s best, but neither can the same be said about Ayesha, whose first release this year Sunday went away without much buzz, nor can John wave his Goal yellow card.

Nagesh Kukunoor too had a resounding flop in Bombay To Bangkok, which led to some critics even wondering whether it was really Nagesh who had direced this movie, or if there was an error in the credits! On the other hands, Aashayein seems similar to the Hollywood hit Last Holiday, which starred the great Queen Latifah in a heart-warming role, though Aashayein being a Nagesh Kukunoor film probably won’t have a happy ending as was the case with Last Holiday. There is still time before it’s promos hit the television screens, but we hope that Aashayein does fulfill the aashayein of these three names. Amen!
