Race stars, Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Sameera Reddy attended the music launch of their new film on the set of Amul Voice of India Chhote Ustaad, Filmcity, Monday noon February 4.
Katrina disappointed us in a floor length black mesh dress with lined body and sheer full sleeves.
But for the fact that the empire waist had a silver shining band with blue and parrot green striped bodice and the scoop neckline was revealing, we would have labeled the dress as a sack.
Katrina was accompanied by her younger sister, Isabelle.
Sameera Reddy looked lovely in a short body hugging sweetheart neckline black polka dot satin dress. She wore large silver hoops and she looked graceful with her long hair left open.
Saif, attired stylishly in a grey suit, black shirt and his trademark handkerchief in the coat pocket, arrived an hour ahead of others and stayed busy with his PDA, talking and texting all the while.
Wearing aviator glasses all through, he came across as anxious, agitated and rushed. His mind definitely seemed somewhere else. Sadly, once again he had no smiles to flash for the press.
Akshaye was his charming self, composed and well turned out in a dark blue suit, white shirt, a blue silk tie and aviator glasses.
We didn’t see Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor at the event, who also feature in the film.
TIPS Films’ thriller Race, directed by Abbas Mustan, is the story of two brothers competing against each other. It stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy, Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor.
Race music is given by Pritam who was present at the music launch. Atif Aslam has given three songs to the film with one being sung by Taz (Stereo Nation).
A stuntman from Australia who specializes in car chase and swivel was hired for the filming. The wardrobe for all the stars was designed by Anaita Shroff Adajania.
The film due for release on 21 March 2008 was shot in Dubai and parts of South Africa.
Sameera Reddy says she doesn’t care, but the fact is she has replaced Mallika Sherawat at the last moment in Abbas-Mustan’s “Race”.
“Who cares? Roles exchange hands all the time. Bipasha (Basu) was supposed to do my role in Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s ‘Kaal Purush’. Does it matter? I’m just too excited working with Abbas-Mustan for the first time,” Sameera told IANS.
“I’m also quite taken up with the idea of working with Saif (Ali Khan), Bipasha, Akshaye (Khanna) for the first time. And you know what? I play a full-on bimbette in this film!”
Sameera must be a rare actress to be so happy doing a no-brainer role.
“Yes, I am! Because the fact is, from ‘Musafir’ onwards I’m quite tired of doing serious dark roles. I want to just let my hair down and have fun. Abbas-Mustan’s ‘Race’ will allow that because everyone has a character to play. No one is paired with anyone. It’s just about having fun,” the sultry actress said.
Buddhadeb Dasgupta too is planning another film with her.
“It’s another Bengali film with a peculiar title, ‘Me, Yasim & Madhubala’. It’s about voyeurism and I play a kathak dancer called Madhubala. But please don’t jump to conclusions. There’s nothing cheesy about the film. It’s a serious study of a woman’s space and how it’s invaded by technology like mobile phones etc.”
So are we looking at a Dasgupta-Reddy trilogy?
Sameera laughs, “Well…dada did compare me with Smita Patil. So there, I’m just happy doing such varied roles from ‘Kaal Purush’ to ‘Race’. I think 2008 is going to be very special for me.”
What about that someone special in her life? “It’s really funny. But journalists keep making up soul mates for me when I’ve none. There’s no space for any. In fact when someone special comes along that space would be automatically made.”
