The king Akshay Kumar has struck gold by signing up hot Southern star Shriya Saran for his home-based project Komagatu Maru, directed by Deepa Mehta. “I’m on top of the world, as I ‘m doing Deepa Mehta’s epic Komagata Maru,” says Shriya, “Deepaji is my favourite director and it is a great honour to do a film with her.”

Shriya is currently filming Jaggubhai for Ravikumar alongside Sarath Kumar. The unit is currently in Australia filming musical items in Sydney. Shriya became a national figure after the movie Sivaji: The Boss and recently appeared opposite Vikram in Kanthaswamy. Earlier this year, she could be seen in Mission Istanbul and the crossover movie, The Other End of the Line with Jesse Metcalf and British actress Tara Sharma.
Other than her acting, Shriya is almost equally well known for her social conscience. She has adopted two children from an orphanage. Under the arrangements of the scheme she is involved in, the children remain at the orphanage but she pays all their expenses including maintenance, education and medical fees.

Although she has the blockbuster Tamil film ‘Sivaji- The Boss’ to her credit, things have not been really rocking for the pretty actress Shreya Saran. Now, the gal, who was also seen with Emraan Hashmi in ‘Awarapan’, has been signed by filmmaker Deepa Mehta for an international project. The film titled ‘What’s Cooking’ is jointly produced by Deepa Mehta along with B.R. Films. The film which also stars Seema Biswas and Lisa Ray is currently being shot in Delhi.
Anyways, this will be Shreya’s second Hollywood venture as she is already doing Ashok Amritraj’s ‘Other End of the Life’. No wonder the girl is beaming with excitement about the project, “When I got the offer, I was really thrilled. It will be a different style of film making and another new experience for me.”
This is not all for Shreya. She will also be seen in Sangeet Sivan’s ‘Ek’ alongside Bobby Deol and Nana Patekar and in Apoorva Lakhia’s action adventure ‘Mission Istanbul’.
